Hagley is where the du Pont story begins. E. I. du Pont established his home and a gunpowder mill here in 1802 and the company evolved into a major international corporation with worldwide impact and a lasting legacy throughout the Brandywine Valley.

Today our scenic 235-acre campus along the banks of the Brandywine River includes the original mills of the DuPont Company, working machinery, a restored workers' community, the du Pont ancestral home and restored garden, and more. Hagley boasts the most beautiful mile along the Brandywine as well as an abundance of wildflowers and trees. We welcome you to explore this example of American industry and discover the fascinating links between history, science, and technology.
